The short version

1. About these terms

These terms cover this website, cobalthistory.com, and the videos Cobalt History publishes. "We" and "us" mean the people who run Cobalt History. By using this website or our videos, you agree to these terms. Where you watch our videos on a platform such as YouTube or TikTok, that platform's own terms also apply.

2. Our content

Our videos, scripts, narration, graphics, logo and this website belong to Cobalt History or are used under licence. Some images, film and music in our videos come from others, either in the public domain or under licence, and we credit them where a licence asks us to, usually in the video's description.

The film and pictures on this website's home page are in the public domain. Film: NASA (Apollo 11, 1969); The Battle of the Somme (1916, filmed by Geoffrey Malins and John McDowell); the U.S. Marine Corps (Iwo Jima, 1945, filmed by Bill Genaust); Universal Newsreel and the U.S. National Archives (the Hindenburg, 1937; U.S. Navy ships, 1962); the U.S. Information Agency (Vienna, 1961; President Kennedy's address, October 22, 1962); the Office of War Information and the U.S. National Archives (D-Day, 1944); UK Government film of the Berlin Airlift (1948, via The National Archives). Pictures: Jean-Léon Gérôme, The Death of Caesar (Walters Art Museum); the Bayeux Tapestry; Emanuel Leutze, Washington Crossing the Delaware (Metropolitan Museum of Art); Willy Stöwer, Der Untergang der Titanic; Robert F. Sargent, U.S. Coast Guard, Into the Jaws of Death (1944); NASA, Buzz Aldrin on the Moon (1969). Copies came from Wikimedia Commons, the Internet Archive and the U.S. National Archives.

You're welcome to watch our videos, share links to them, and share or embed them using the platforms' own share and embed features. Please don't download and re-upload, copy, edit, sell or otherwise reuse our videos, or use the Cobalt History name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you, without our written permission. Uses the law allows anyway, such as fair use for commentary, criticism or teaching, are not affected.

3. Accuracy

We research every video from published sources and work hard to get the history right. Historians sometimes disagree, and we can make mistakes. Our videos and this website are general information and education, not professional advice. If you think we got something wrong, send us a direct message to Cobalt History on Instagram or Facebook, or leave a comment on the video; we read every correction.

4. The platforms we post on

Our videos appear on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and Threads. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, including the YouTube Terms of Service and TikTok's Terms of Service.

5. How we publish

We use TikTok's Content Posting API, YouTube API Services, Meta's APIs and the X API solely to post our own content to Cobalt History's own accounts. We don't offer this software to anyone else, and it never posts to or reads from anyone else's account. Our use of YouTube API Services is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service, and our use of TikTok's APIs to TikTok's developer terms. Our Privacy Policy explains what information this involves.

6. Comments and messages

Comments on our posts are governed by the platform's rules. We may hide or remove comments that are abusive, hateful, spam or misleading. You keep ownership of what you write. If you send us corrections or topic ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you, though we're grateful for them.

This website links to the platforms we post on and to other sites. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or their handling of your information.

If you believe something we've published uses your work without permission, send us a direct message to Cobalt History on Instagram or Facebook naming the video and the material concerned. We'll look into it promptly and remove the material where appropriate. You can also use the platform's own copyright process.

9. No warranty and limits of liability

This website and our videos are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, Cobalt History is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of this website or our videos.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page.
